Underbody lights utilize flexible LED strips, integrating multiple high-brightness LED beads onto a flexible circuit board; the number and arrangement of these beads determine the uniformity of the light output. The strips are encased in a transparent or frosted silicone layer for waterproofing and dustproofing, with some models featuring an IP67 protection rating. High-temperature resistant FR-4 fiberglass boards are commonly used as the substrate for the circuitry.

Operation relies on a controller that precisely regulates current and supports switching between sound-activated, light-activated, and remote-controlled modes-such as synchronizing lighting effects with the rhythm of music via a built-in microphone. Functional features include various lighting modes-such as steady-on, strobe, gradient, and breathing effects-and allow users to customize color combinations via remote control or a mobile app.
Some products employ high Color Rendering Index (CRI > 80) LEDs combined with light-guide plate designs to ensure the ground-facing illumination is soft and glare-free.
Mainstream products typically operate within a power range of 5–15W and offer color temperatures spanning from 2700K (warm light) to 6500K (cool light), supporting 12V/24V vehicle electrical systems. The beam angle generally ranges from 120° to 180°, determining the spread of light on the ground.
