They serve not only a decorative purpose but also act as an effective warning signal. At night, or during fog, rain, or low-visibility conditions, they help pedestrians and other drivers identify the vehicle's position-whether moving or parked-thereby reducing the risk of accidents.
There are many types of underglow lights. While neon lights were used initially, they have largely been replaced by LEDs due to the latter's long lifespan, energy efficiency, and high brightness.
Installation methods include adhesive mounting and screw mounting. For adhesive mounting, simply peel off the protective film from the light's mounting base and stick it in place. For screw mounting, drill holes into the vehicle's metal chassis corresponding to the mounting brackets at both ends of the light strip, then secure them with the provided screws. Ensure the power connection is secure, paying attention to correct positive and negative polarity. If you are concerned about failing the annual vehicle inspection, you can install a temporary switch; connect the red and black wires (positive to positive, negative to negative) using the dedicated power cable, verify proper operation, and then secure the unit with screws.
Prices vary widely: a 30cm LED soft light strip costs around 28 RMB; grille/chassis light strips are 35 RMB; a 5-meter high-brightness waterproof SMD strip is 22 RMB; and wireless remote-controlled, sound-activated lights are 57 RMB.
When installing underglow lights, choose high-quality, waterproof LED strips to ensure safety and proper circuit function. Recommended locations include the front, rear, or sides of the chassis. Inspect the lights at least weekly, ensure the LEDs are shock-resistant, and verify the correct resistance and voltage. Clean the underside of the car thoroughly before applying silicone adhesive. When using a jack, block the tires and release the parking brake; take care to protect your head and eyes when working underneath the vehicle.
In my country, installing optoelectronic devices that interfere with road traffic safety is prohibited. Installing underglow lights may violate traffic regulations, depending on local laws and the judgment of traffic police. It is advisable to fully understand the regulations before installation to avoid potential trouble.
